“Trepiedi” Fireplace cook stands

Imagine cooking all of your family’s meals in the kitchen fireplace! That was the task of Calabrian women who as recently as the 1950’s continued to use the “Trepiedi” kitchen marvel to get the job done. The word “trepiedi” means “three footed” and these ingenious cooking devices supported ceramic pots where ceci, lentils, and beans of all kinds were slow-cooked to perfection.
