Large Ginestra Tablecloth with Hand-Crocheted Corners
Of all of our woven items presented here, those made from the ginestra plant are most precious. The craft was brought to Calabria by Jewish women who had been expelled from Spain – many of whom became master weavers who taught their craft to local women as well.
This large tablecloth is a perfect example of how this unusual plant (“broom” in English) formed the basis on some of the most beautiful and durable fabric pieces in all of Italy. For more information see our Blog on the Ginestra Plant.
