Terracotta Amphora, 1950
The design and use of an amphora, like the one available here, dates back to the historical period, “Magna Grecia,” or “Greater Greece,” when vessels like these were used as traveling containers for wine, oil, milk or grain. Amphoras were sometimes used as grave markers and today many Calabrians adorn grave stones with carvings of an amphora to honor their Greek ancestry. The amphora we offer here is a reproduction of this ancient vessel.
