Impressive collection of 1930’S “Salaturi,” Terracotta Food Storage Containers
Available indiviually or as a group. Referred to in Calabria dialect as “salaturi,” these ceramic containers were found in nearly every mountain home. Long before the advent of plastics, it was the “salaturi” that preserved meat, olives, mushrooms and onions under a cover of salt – hence the name “salaturi” from the Italian word “sale,” /salt! This collection features “salaturi” that are nearly 100 years old, many with the salt markings still apparent .
