Fireplace Ceramic Cook Pot

This vintage ceramic pot cooked many a meal for many Calabrian families. Before the arrival of the kitchen stove, women stoked the fire in the kitchen fireplace, and using a wrought iron stand, placed the specially made rounded bottom of this special ceramic pot on the stand to cook the ceci or lentichi (garbanzo beans and lentils) -  the “poor persons’ protein” that substituted for meat for many Calabrian families.
